Provenienz: 1783 in der Galerie nachweisbar; Um 1795 wurde das Bild als Gegenstück zu dem Porträt der Kaiserin Maria Theresia (GG 6201) über den Kamin im großen Saal des Oberen Belvedere eingepaßt; 1970 wurde das ursprüngliche Format wieder hergestellt.
